Awards and Fellowships

Winner of Ryan Fischer-Harbage's Editor's Choice Award at the SDSU Writers' Conference, 2006, for the first chapter of my novel now known as Traveling Into the Sun.

Finalist in Byline Magazine's 2005 First Chapter of a Novel Contest for "The Egyptologist," first chapter of The Book of Traveling Into the Sun. The chapter was one of fourteen finalists and winners out of 128 entrants.

Winner of the Phi Kappa Phi Student Recognition Award for Missing: A Novel. The award was presented at the University of Southern California 24th Annual Academic Honors Convocation on March 10, 2005.

Finalist in the 11th Annual James Jones First Novel Fellowship awarded by the James Jones Literary Society in conjunction with Wilkes University. The title of my entry, Curing Ennui has since been changed to Traveling Into the Sun. It was one of seven winners and finalists out of 590 entrants. This novel was also my thesis project.

Finalist in the Arts & Letters 2004 Fiction Contest for the short story “The Scrapbooks.” The Arts & Letters Journal of Contemporary Culture is published and supported by Georgia College & State University.

Recipient of a Spring 2004 Frieda Fox Fellowship for excellence in writing from the University of Southern California’s Master of Professional Writing Program.
